software / hardware problem ?

I've got a problem and don't know where to put it. So if I put it in the wrong forum.... sorry.

I've two computers. One older with win2k. I've build for that machine an LCD with smartie and it works fine. So I wanted to build one too for my Big machine with win XP but I cant get it working.
What I've done:

* Used the same LCD on both machines. In one it works in the other not.
* Same software, both the PORT95NT driver installed.
* Both in the bios the LPT1 on, adress 378, IRQ 7, EPP 1.7 (tried 1.9, ECP and "normal")
* On my linuxpartion installed LCDproc, nothing.
* On my win partion installed the WinampLCD plugin, nothing.
* Tried it with and without the PORT95NT driver, nothing.
* The contrast of the LCD is oke on the win2k machine. On the winXP machine I only see some black squares.

Oke, the problem config:
Asus K8N MBO
Sempron 3000
512 MB DDR

Anybody any sugestions?
