RS485 Displays?

Any chances there will be a RS485 display driver or part of Smartie? This may take care of all the IBM POS equipment displays and keyboards. There would have to be a way to either sniff what address the device is using on the line or able to physically set it some how. Just a thought considering there is a lot of IBM POS stuff on ebay that can be played with
