Question about my LCD

I just reveived myHD44780 20x1 lcd screen. I was looking at the wiring schemes and I noticed something diffrent. First, I only have 14 pins.

1 - Vss
2 - Vdd
3 - Vo
4 - RS
5 - R/W
6 - E
7 - D0
8 - D1
9 - D2
10 - D3
11 - D4
12 - D5
13 - D6
14 - D7

I was looking at the schemes on the LCD Smartie web page and they have 16 pins. what for? and what is:VB+ and VB- LED lights?

Is doing the parallel port LCD mod possible with the LCD I have?

Pins 15 and 16 are for the backlight, some have them some dont. But dont get confused, 4x40 lcds have more pins but that is because there are two enable lines.

right you can do the parallel connection without backlight of course!
