Help with LCD and WIN7 64bit

Post by diegotheslinger »

Hello.

Just wondering if anyone might be able to assist me. I am running win7 64bit and I cannot seem to get the lcd to output text. I am fairly sure it is wired up correctly, it is a EDT EW20400GLY 20x4 and I used this schematic to wire it up for the parallel port.

http://www.datasheetarchive.com/EW20400 ... sheet.html -----datasheet
http://lcdsmartie.sourceforge.net/lcd44780.gif -----schematic

I am using LCD smartie 5.4, and have downloaded and installed inout32 and replace the .dll in the lcd smartie folder. I have selected HD44780.dll in lcd smartie and have it set to use port 378 ($378) which I also set in bios along with EPP.

I am new to lcds, so i assume it is some kinda error on my part. The lcd displays boxes on lines 1 and 3 and I am able to adjust the contrast and brightness fine. (good indication of correct wiring) LCD Smartie displays text fine on the computer side.

Is there another way to test the lcd? Did I install inout32 incorrectly? Any help would be appreciated, I'll post back if i get it working. Im going to try it out on a 32bit machine coming up here. Thanks
