Smartie newbie

I'm a newbie and I'm asking myself the following and also this group

. Is the smartie suitable (with a plug-inn?)
For this:

I'm building a stand alone VST player based on a motherboard and a older Windows version.

I like to use it without a big monitor. I only use a 4 inch tft in this design.
So I like to read-out a dir (map) on a LCD to choose the prg's in it with only a kind
of dial.

Does any-one know if this is possible with the smartie or any other free design on this topic?
