NEW (unread) Email Recieved plugin

I wondered if anyone had ever written a plugin to check POP email account and report back on number of UNREAD emails on the POP account and name of last sender

For me having (number of emails on the serveR) a number reported back in the thousands is pretty useless (and even the name of last sender is not that useful) but having ideally number UNREAD on the server or even number received since 00:00AM this mng would be far more useful ....

i configured my gmail account with pop3 and i get a weird big number and it doesnt seem to update with the latest unread message...
