HD44780 VFD Wiring
I already know how to wire the VFD (LCD HD44780 Compatible) but what is the maximum length of the cable I can make for my display. I'll be using flat ribbon cable

Consider this as a standard parallel connection...
30 ft about 10m

I have used 16 lines on flat ribbon cable up to 1m-1.5m lenght, then it could be possible to get the display scrambled in a very noisy environment.
BUT if you can use a wider cable try routing the ground line between every signal line. This solved my problem and now I use a 3,5m flat ribbon cable.
First try just routing the necessary lines to your desired lenght and if you have problems, route more ground lines between the data lines.
