Need a connector!

Post by M4TVW »

Hey all. I'm new here.

I got an HD44780 a while ago now and have had it in my PC for a while.

Only problem being is I don't use it...

What I am thinking is I would use it more if I could see it better!

So I am thinking of using another spare one I have here and making that into an external one...Making a box for it etc.

BUT! What I want to do it make it so I can swap colours easy.

If I got another colour LCD that would mean soldering up another one etc.

So I have been looking on the net and found some people that have used connector blocks that snap to the PCB rather then soldering the wires onto it. Then I would just need to make a plug on the end of my printer cable.

I think what I am looking for is a nice vertical 16 way single row connector.

I cannot for the life of me find one! Not with a matching connector anyway!

What are everyone else using rather then soldering the wires onto the PCB? I wasn't very good at soldering the last one...but it worked!

I will post a pic of my PC when I get a sec.

Many thanks
Mat :D

Do some searching on ebay and google. Here is the first place I came across http://www.hobbyengineering.com/SectionHD.html That should head you in the right direction. There is a guy on ebay who sells LCDs and with the lcd he gives you a 16 pin connector with a small ribbon cable on it. I can find him if your interested.
