Running through LCD Smartie, custom chars and everything....

Hi.
That is probably not an LCD, but rather a VFD.
Anyway, do you know what hardware you got? My 40x2 T23A/T20A does not work using SmartIE
Edit: it is probably CU20045SCPB-U1J, which has a HD44780 driver.
..or a CU20045scpb-t23a

Yep, it's a VFD, not an LCD. I've been typing LCD too much in code, just popped out from my fingers I guess.
It's a CU20049SCPB-W2J

There's the data sheet.
There are no HD44780 labelled chips on the board I could see, but instead an Itron made chip.

I like using VFDs, you don't have to wire in the backlight, so the soldering is easier, and they look fantactic. Especially useful for modding into retail device cases like old DVD players.

It sure glows compared to an LCD display.
Any chance a 4x20 PLED display is to be found?
