LCD shows nonsense under Windows 7 (64bit)

Post by Holgy1967 »

Hello,

I use an LCD display hd44780 2x16 on LPT1 under Windows 7 (64Bit). So far everything has worked great. Everything is displayed correctly. :D

The display has recently started showing utter nonsense. When I open the program LCD-Smartie, everything is displayed correctly there. Unfortunately not on the display!

I've tried everything on the software side. Unfortunately without success. Maybe it is a hardware problem?

Would be great if you could help me!

Thank you!!!

We can only speculate what your problem may be if you don't post any photos or wiring diagrams of your setup(s) or any kind of other information. What it sounds like is a few of your data pins (D0-D7) on the display to the LPT port are mixed up! Also try going in to the BIOS of your computer and changing the Parallel port to EPP. This will eliminate any software side issues 99 % of the time. May have gotten changed if your pc was worked on recently. Repair shops love to reset the BIOS for some reason and not restore the settings the clients had before lol. This could have also happened if there were a power outage whilst the PC was turned on! Furthermore a CMOS battery replacement would have caused a BIOS reset. Like I said, only speculation at this point.
