Just a note to anyone test vcorp's beta:
Several of us on the forums are planning a complete overhaul and redesign of the internals of LCDSmartie, mainly because the initial design--though functional--was not particularly well planned. With hindsight being what it is, we have decided that a different internal structure would make it much easier to provide plugins for reading from different programs, supporting different LCD hardware, and text-manipulation plugins in general. It would also make it much easier to provide updates and bug fixes.
Unfortunately, vcorp is applying his fixes directly to the current beta source. Though it's expected that much of his work will be incorporated into the newly redesigned release, it will probably require many changes, just like the rest of Smartie. So please, vcorp and everybody else testing these changes, bear in mind that much of this work may be in vain, since we will be making major changes to the entire source code over the next few weeks.
We do appreciate yours and everybody's help in developing LCD Smartie. Especially with the renew interest in development, many people have come forward wanting to help, and they are more than welcome. Just be aware that having many people working on one program at the same time requires co-ordination and a common system. This system is CVS, and is available to any of the developers.
If you would like to help develop, please mention this to clansley. You will need to register with
www.sourceforge.net, which is where our CVS is being hosted. He will add you to the developer system there and give you access to the Core Developers forum as well. This is where we will be coordinating our efforts to make sure that everybody's hard work is put to good use.
Thanks once again for your help with Smartie. We only ask that you stick with this system (which is in the process of being set up) so that everything goes smoothly.
