nmedia lcd pro with win 7 64
I've spent hours reading posts in this forum and searching google but I can't figure out how to configure this so that it will work. If anyone is using the Nmedia LCD PRO with Windows 7 64 bit, I would surely appreciate it if you could explain to me how you got it to work. I tried the software that came with it and didn't really like it. I'm hoping to be able to use LCD Smartie.
Thanks
Thanks

I am also in the same boat. Unfortunately, I am too much of a noob to understand what I need to do after reading that thread. I copied FTDI_LCD.dll and FTDI_LCD.ini into the displays directory, but I still have no joy. "Failed to open device: DLL initialize error: Error open device " It is a 2x20 display (LCD-PRO from nmediapc). Any other tips?

I took a closer look and I have a FTDI FT232RQ chip. I have the latest driver and it recognized by windows on COM3. It works with VL Systems software, but that program does not allow for any customization, so i am trying to get it to work with Smartie.
I could understand just a little from the thread that you referenced. Do i need to change the Hardware part of the INI file?

If it's a serial driver than it won't work with Smarties FTDI driver.
The serial testdriver is your bet bet if you can figure out the command set you lcd uses.
PS: Maybe you can snoop at the datastream while the original software runs

Just to be clear, it is plugged into a USB port, but in the Device Manager it appears in USB as a USB Serial Converter (COM and LPT), and in Ports as USB Serial Port (COM3).

Just for testing purposes you may use the existing FTDI driver (this is a driver for LCD Smartie - not a windows driver). Just select the driver under the LCD Smartie menu (look at the following image).hansie1 wrote:I took a closer look and I have a FTDI FT232RQ chip. Im having the same problem. I cant get LCD Smartie to work with this LCD. I tried the FTDI_LCD.dll with no luck!
The driver listed on Device manager says USB Serial Port (Com 5). Is that what my problem is?

Silence, Hansie and others: Is this the nMedia you have? LCDhttp://www.nmediapc.com/prolcd.htm
It appears (from the manual at http://www.nmediapc.com/LCD/LCDManualWeb.pdf ) to be LIS MCE LCD/VFD compatible so it's probably worth trying the test driver setup (and maybe also the beta LIS driver) mentioned in this thread: http://forums.lcdsmartie.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1229
It looks like LIS support is pretty thin at present - seems there is not much protocol info available for reverse engineering...

Re: nmedia lcd pro with win 7 64 Solved
I have a nMEDIAPC Pro-LCD 20x2 and I found that the L.I.S. VFD Driver works...and MAY work for other VL System products.

This amazing little display has a PIC16F716 and FTDI USB serial chip on a daughter board similar to a PIC backpack. With a bit it hacking, the PIC could be reflashed to be used for custom OEM devices too!!
