ebay: http://stores.ebay.com/HNQH-LCD I recommend this seller

Matrix Orbital: http://www.matrixorbital.com/
CrystalFontz: http://www.crystalfontz.com

Noritake: http://www.noritake-elec.com/products.htm
HTVision: http://www.htvision.com/

Of course you can rip out an old "non functional" device and take the LCD.
Most LCD's are HD44780 compatible.

Futurlec is also a great place to buy lcds. They are a bit expensive when it comes to lcds, but I buy them with loads of other components. Most of the stuff there is dirt cheap (atmega32 < $10).

All over.

I was associated with the BG Micro 2x20 VFD craze years ago.

I have a number of Crystalfontz because they have never steered me wrong. They are pretty pricy but I got good deals on the ones I have, for the most part ;)

I also have some from undetermined sources, probably BGMicro again or some other bulk hardware place. I don't use these as much because they're either raw parallel interfaces, or have actually no interface on them at the moment and I'm way too lazy to hook up parallel right now :)

Try http://www.csd-electronics.de/ (German) or http://www.csd-electronics.com/ (English)

This place sells pre-wired parallel 20x4 white and blue LCDs for ?21.99 and normal green ones for ?18.99. I'm very tempted.

4x40 source?

Post by uzumaki »

Is there a cheap source for 4x40 displays? eBay don't have any of them last I checked and when I checked Crystalfontz and Allelectronics they costs a lot more than getting 2x 4x20 displays off eBay. I tried Digikey, the cheapest is 38 dollars but min quantity is 300 >_< single quantity order starts at almost 60 dollars.

Mavrick did not have 4x40 display but did have many other sizes.

I eventually snagged one off eBay for $10.99 plus 3.50 shipping, and more are still available last I checked. The seller was very fast on shipping and I got the display working on first try. Although the backlight LED power was listed for 5v, I inserted a 5 ohm resistor so the display isn't so bright or warm. I did need to wire the LED power on the right side of the display as there's no connection from the 18 pin connector on the left side.

The new 4x40 runs along side with dual 4x20 in tall config but I'm going to need another parallel port card if I wanted more.
