Yes FTDI supports the shutdown message as well. But to next version I thinks some new features must be added there.(like center text, clearing all lines before send the shut down message because sometimes the message is mixed with characters from the last screen displayed!)

All suggestions are noted, I just hope to find some time to code a little bit.

Event Driven Plugins

Post by spauka »

Hey,
Let me thank you for your great work. I do robotics work, and i only recently discovered this software to connect my LCD screens to my PC so really great software.
Anyway, just a suggestion, I do .NET development, and I'm just wondering if it is possible to add an event driven interface to LCDSmartie. For example, i wrote an interface to Windows Media Player that displays current playing position, however, the time changes are a little off due to the refresh rate being set, so one second is slow, the other fast etc. Possibly a function that can be called from the plugin dll (once loaded) that causes a screen refresh.
Other than that, great software.
Thanks

You can tweak:
- dll check interval on Misc. tab and
- Refresh interval on Screens tab ;)

What i mean is, for example when listening to a song, to continue that example, it wont change for say 3 minutes, so its pointless to keep polling the plugin. There is however an event that is called when the song changes, and if it is possible to only update the information once that occurs, especially if there are a large number of plugins running simultaneously, which may be polled in such a way, then it may improve the efficiency a great deal.

That would mean to change the way smartie addresses plugins. Now it is polling and you can set the interval.

I don't feel safe changing that myself :(

Sort of off-topic question, any reason why the releases page hasn't been updated since apr. 2007, i see that at least caesar worked on some new releases (not saying there aren't any others, just saying what i stumbled upon)

Anyways keep up the good work on this great little program.

LCDSmarie is a stable and plugin enabled program. Also the main coders have been busy with their lifes and because there wasn't a pressing need to change Smartie, no releases followed.

I had some spare time I dedicated to Smartie (more is needed) and hopefully will find some more, at least to incorporate the new demands.
