recently i had computer trouble and my display which is a lis mce oem vfd for nmedia 288 case was plugged in wrong instead of usb a fdd molex was plugged into it which i belive fried the usb chip i used meter to check traces to chip and its not so simple as a lifted trace i belive the converter chip is dead. the display still comes on but when plugged into usb nothign happens i believe the daughter /usb board has been fried. since the display still comes on im wondering if i can just remove the usb coverter board as in the picture and use this as a serial or parallel vfd. i tried looking for this vfd specs but was unsuccesful at finding this exact one i found somethign similiar but dont want to fry this if it is still good. im not sure if its serial or parallel or where to begin trying to wire it up. any help is appreciated [/img]
The manual for the VFD module ( http://www.vlsys.co.kr/pds/manual/L.I.S ... Manual.pdf from link at www.nmediapc.com ) seems to indicate that it's a standard HD44780 compatible interface on the VFD panel, so you should be able to connect it to a parallel port using a similar circuit to the LCD LPT schematic.
It looks like the USB daughterboard could easily be plugged into a power connector instead of the supplied USB cable... is that what happened?
thats exactly what happened they use a propriatary fdd power like molex to usb adapter cable and in the mix of things i plugged power into it instead of usb sending 12v either up one of the data lines or maybe the ground i cant remember the pin config.
a quick search i found this pin config http://home.iae.nl/users/pouweha/lcd/lc ... assignment
i will use it and one of the diagrams around here and go for it . i just wasnt 100% sure. thanks alot for the help il post back how it goes
Good to hear you got it working! I guess you're using the parallel port (LPT) connection to the VFD? You should be able to use the full range of Smartie features.
