Support for SDEC P-S16248CT-E? HELP!

Post by Aquinas1 »

Hello!

I've been searching the forum (and internet) for days and I haven't had any luck getting my 2x16 SDEC LCD Module to work with LCDSmartie. I hope someone on this forum can help!?!

I purchased a Nexcom 1088N8, which has an SDEC P-S16248CT-E. The drivers that were given to me say it's a Sunlike Display SC1602D 2*16, but I confirmed it says the SDEC part number on the board.

I followed the instructions online and installed port95nt before installing LCDSmartie. I know the LCD Module is wired correctly because I can run the test application that came with the device and the blocks on the top row are replaced by text from the test application. To me, this means it's wired correctly and Windows Server 2003 Standard can see it.

I have confirmed that it is using the LPT1 port and using ECP $378 and tried both in the config. I don't have an option to change it from ECP to EPP. I have also tried using LPT1,5 with no luck.

I've read online that this LCD is HD44780 compatilble, but I'm not 100% sure since I couldn't get it to work with that driver. I added the driver dll (lcmdll.dll) that was provided from Nexcom in the display folder and it did change the row of LCD blocks to a blank screen with a curser. It seems like I'm making process, but I don't how much.

Does anyone have any idea what my issue is? Is LCDSmartie just not compatible? I'm an LCD newbie, so any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

It really depends on the way the LCD is wired to the parallel port.

It is a possibility that the display is wired in a different way, that LCDSmartie can not use for communication.

Do you have a schematic of the wiring method to the parallel port?

Thanks for the quick response!

I guess it could be wired differently, I didn't really think about that. If that's the case, am I S.O.L.? From what I can tell, it seems to be the same.

Here's a link to the user manual they sent me. If you don't mind checking it out for me, maybe you'll see something I missed...

Thanks for helping me out!

On page 3 of the pdf, page nr. 2 in the datasheet you will see table nr. 3 called "Interface Pin Connections".

Those pins must be connected like it is pictured here: http://lcdsmartie.sourceforge.net/circuits.htm

You can check those connections with a multimeter. If they don't match up (probably not, most likely the R/W pin is tied to ground) then you'll have to solder it right or get someone to do it for you.

I checked the pins and everything looks right. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Yes, it is. I've tried messing with both port95nt and inpout32. I have tried a few other LCD programs, but have since uninstalled them. Could there possibly be some aftermath I'm dealing with?

Since the row of blocks goes away once LCDSmartie loads and a courser shows on row 1/column 1, wouldn't that mean it's communicating with the LCD some what? Maybe it's a funky timing issue?

Thanks again for the help with this!
