Im going to purchase a LED programmable sign which is 1 line. It has an RS232 input for the sign will this work with LCDsmartie? I attach a specs sheet also http://www.webstaurantstore.com/specshe ... OLORII.PDF

A spec sheet with the communication protocol would be useful.
The linked sheet only states that it will work with their software.

It states that it is an ASCII Code is the communication protocal.

But ascii code can mean that either it outputs ascii characters to the display or that commands are ascii (cleartext).

If it's command driven then only if they provide the commands can that display be used.

Yes, it can be used with Smartie, with the test plugin ;)

If you buy that display and if you need any help setting that up (it's easy in fact) we'll help.
