D.Vine 5 and Vista32 unreadable text on display....HELP!

Post by Themanthatisi »

Hello all?.
I am hoping to get some help with my D.Vine 5 case display. The HTPC is a P4 setup on a Gigabyte mobo with a standard parallel port (port 378) running Vista home 32. The display is a 2x16 Samsung or Hitachi (not sure) I have the port set up as ECP and also tried ECP+EPP. I tried LCDSmartie versions 5.3 and up with port95nt nothing worked on the display. Then I used inpout32 and now have garbled text.
Frontview works flawlessly set up as an Hitachi so I know the display is good?.
What am I doing wrong with LCDSmartie? I spent a few hours on it and almost ready to spend the $ on Frontview but I am hoping for someone here to guide me on more info?.

Thanks

If you are using LPT1 then try LPT1,5 or if you are using $378 then try $378,5.

,5 is the timing multiplier and it usually helps with slow display on a fast PC or with longer cables.

Hope this helps. We'll see further.

Thank you for the advice, however, there has been little improvement. The only difference is LCD Smartie starts up fine, but thats it.

Also, Frontview is doing the same thing as LCD smarty currently is. Both now start fine and work for a little while before I get the garbeled text.

Why would it work, then get like that? Any other suggestions? Also, would it be better to get a better display, maybe a more modern USB one? Any suggestions on a make/model? I have room in my case for something bigger then the 2x16 anyway.....

I just want this to be reliable, its driving me nuts!

Thanks....

The only thing I can suggest now is increasing that delay from 5 to 6,7,8 you get the idea.

Please provide more info about the display, pictures, manual etc.

I don't know that case so no ideas abut USB displays that fit in it.
Matrix Orbital has a fine selection with precise measurements. I'd start looking there. http://www.matrixorbital.com

Thank you, I will try that....

here is the link to the case I have.... You can see, the front screen is much bigger then the supplied VFD.

i wish you good luck with the timings cause it doesn't look like an easy job to put in an LCD (because of the black plastic), and i haven't seen bigger VFD's and even if you find one, fitting it will be hard too.
