Plugin to display GPS navigation manoeuvre from carpc

Post by PrzemoP4 »

Hello!
I'm new to the forum and have no special programming abilities. I'm wondering how to display GPS navigation informations (like distance to target, distance to next menoeuvre, speed etc.) taken directly from navigation software like iGo, TomTom etc.

What's the aim?
I'm just about to finish my car pc project (based on EEE 701). Of course this opens me a lot of possibilities in my car: mp3, video, TV... whatever... And of course GPS navigation!
So to keep functionality of multimedia station and to be able to navigate simoultanously, it'd great to have separate display (tiny lcd) to information from navigation!

For sure many of you know such GPS navigation software like iGo, TomTom, Navigon and many, many others. I'm just amazed by AutoMapa navigation (polish software, coverage only for Europe, but it's dynamicaly developing, 3D buildings, several languages versions, pretty detail maps).

Here is some example screen:

So the most important things are shown on the left.
  • What do you suggest?
How to find where those data are stored in memory?
How to extract them to use by LCDSmartie plugin?
Maybe you know about any similar solution needs only reimplementation?
I'm not expert rather NOOB :) but I think that the clue is the same like for any other software like for games display on Logitech G15 keyboard lcd.

Any ideas?

The softwares you mentioned run on pocket pc's - PDA's and not on car computers that means you already have the data displayed conveniently on a small display.

This software (AutoMapa) is compatibile eaither with desktop Windows (XP, Vista, etc.) and Windows for PDA or PNA (Win CE, WM 5, 6).

In this case I'm going to launch it on carPC with Windows XP.
