Remote LCD Smartie

Post by EvylRat »

My plans have changed for my server. I was going to mount the LCD in it, but since it will hide away, I'd never really see it. Better yet, I'd like to mount the LCD in another PC, and access the LCD Smartie screens for THAT pc, as well as the PC the LCD is in. Any ideas?
Info such as Speedfan temperatures, CPU load, hard drive space

For displaying data from BOTH pc's, off the top of my head, I'd say you would probably have to have one machine (remote one) compile the data you want into a text file, then have LCDS on the local machine read from it, I don't think there are any plugins around to read from a remote machine - may be wrong tho.

That's what I thought. Was looking to to see if Speedfan can output it's temps. Well, it can create a log file, so that's one. I guess the PerfPlugin could access remote PC data too, like CPU usage.

The LCD will replace the VFD (possibly) in my Silverstone case, as the IMON VFD is a bit limited. But yes, If I preffered to run both VFD and LCD, I would take this option. You know what? Might just do that, an LCD for a HTPC could be distracting with the backlight on.

If you're running linux on the computer with the LCD you could try LCDproc. It's very easy to write clients for it which can be run remotely( on a none linux system), and it can connect to multiple clients to collect data.
