HD44780 problem

Hello,
I am trying to get my lcd display (hd44780 compatible KS0066U) working with lcd smartie.

I did use this wiring sheme:


this is the datasheet from the controller: http://www.jo3n.nl/lcd_wiring.pdf

but I can't get it working with lcd smartie, the only thing i see is this:


I tried timing multiplier 5 but it still won't work.
Can somebody help me?

hi did you fix you lcd and get it to work if so how because i have exacly the same problem.

EDIT:
Problem fixed it was the Grounds that i had not tied together
