Best LCD Color for nighttime visiblity

Post by AGr »

Hey, I have been reading up on this forum as I'm planning to create a realtime data display for my car that shows logged data in an easy/quick to read format.

My question is what LCD color w/ backlight would be best for use during nighttime in terms of being able to easily read it and also not being so bright as to light up the whole interior and mess up your night vision. I was thinking the blue w/ white characters but I haven't seen one in person.

All LCD's will produce much light, you can turn it down but you won't be able to read it anymore.

I would suggest that you look into VFD's or OLED's, depending on your budget. Look at Wikipedia for some examples of VFD's and OLED's.

I would recommend red, because it doesn't mess up your night vision. That's why it's the color used in for example, submarines.
