Disregard that last note ... I got it working ... The cable I was using to connect the pc to the project was junk.
Now I have a new problem ... After about 5/10 minutes of displaying info the LCD shows nothing yet smartie is running and the only way to get back my display is to restart the machine ... Even if I unplug the LCD from power and PC and then reconnect it still doesn't show a thing.
Then after restarting tha machine it go's through the whole thing again.
Any ideas as to why?

it's very curious, if you unplug and the plug the display back to the power source it should show all dots black on the first line. If this is true then restarting just smartie should solve the problem temporarily.
For a permanent solution try increasing the delay when you set up the driver (it should show something there to help you)
