Bug in smartie

Post by DotA_Player »

Hello, i dont know if this is right area for post this, but I need help.

I am using LCD smartie with my HD44780 4x20 LCD, I can run it, use it 1-2 hours, and then I receive message "LCD smartie seems to be frozen" , if I click continue, he's blocked, If I click restart, LCD Smartie's process is ended and opened again, but he is fozen from begin. If I wait some time (90 minutes) and try to open LCD smartie, sometimes it's working for next 1-2 hours, sometime it's frozen again from begin. If I restart computer I can use LCD smartie for 1-2 hours and he again get frozen like before. Older version 5.2 is working, but there's no function i need. Please help me, I am adding bug report. Version 5.3, which have "sticky" function (important for me), says Failed to open device "range check error" . In the time I cant use LCD smartie, other LCD aplication is fully operational (if you have in mind prob is in my PC/driver/display) . Maybe it's prob with my operating system, I will test it in w2k3 tomorrow.

zoom a litle on this problem
Thank You very much

I've had mine running on Win2k for about an hour so far with no problems. I'll run it longer and see if I notice anything. Are you guys using USB or RS232 or parallel port or what??

I am using paralel (lpt) port with my HD44780 . It can't be port problem, if another programs are working with no problems.

You have other programs that use not only the parallel port but also that particular plugin-DLL? I ran mine using both Genovation.DLL and HD44780S.DLL without any issues. I will test more.

You have other programs that use not only the parallel port but also that particular plugin-DLL? I ran mine using both Genovation.DLL and HD44780S.DLL without any issues. I will test more.
I wanted to say, that if LCD smartie being started frozen (after 1-2 h activity), another programs controlling display are ok, you understand me ? (excuse my weak english)

It's probably one of the plugins. I ran LCD Smartie overnight (24 hres) on my Win2k box with no problems. My plugins are:

Genovation.dll
demo.dll
PBar.dll
volume.dll
YahooWeather.dll

I'm not sure what demo.dll is for and I don't know if I use it or not, but it is in the directory.

You need to start using the process of elimination to zero-in on your problem.

He means you have to narrow down the list of suspects.

Try running Smartie with only 1 screen active, not using any plugins, if that works, then try running 2 screens, switching between them, then try with a plugin being called.

If Smartie works ok with just the basics, then start loading the plugins and setting up the screens you want one by one until you have a problem, whatever was added/changed when the problem reappeared is at fault.

it takes a while, adding one plugin, then waiting to see if it freezes, then adding another...

I did it right you said, 0 plugins, 1 static screen, and smartie still seems to be frozen after one hour of PC running, i want understand but I can't :D .

Remember : I said PC running, no LCD smartie, if I run smartie in 2nd minute pc runing it's ok, if I run him in 70th minute he freeze.

Is it just Smartie that will freeze or is there any other programs that have problems too?

FIXED

Post by DotA_Player »

I fixed it :D how ? I downloaded one driver, driver for my CPU (yeah, rigth, cpu). I never think I will be instaling drivers for cpu, but it works now, and the paradox is, that older smartie was ok without driver, nvm, it's ok, you can add this to bugs/issues list.
