Hello everyone, i need some help

i have got this display + software

i have installed it and managed to get it working with hyperterminal. But unable to get it working with LCD Smartie

im currently running it off COM port 6.

my startup parameters are this COM6,115200,8,N,1

Have you got the "special config file" that the ebay seller (and Mirrorbow) mention? They don't explain how to use this, but I'm guessing it makes LCDSmartie use the special "test driver" that allows you to use non-standard display protocols.

You'll need to use this config file instead of the original LCDSmartie "config.ini" (or copy out the appropriate sections into your current config). Details of the testdriver settings are here: http://lcdsmartie.sourceforge.net/testdriver.html and you can get the required command settings from the display manual.

You need to set the display plugin in smartie to "testdriver.dll" and make sure the config.ini has the appropriate settings. I'm not sure what they are, so go by the documentation supplied (if any!).

thanks for the reply matt, yeh i have used the config file on the CD. It then told me to change the com port, to what i was using in the file. So i did.

I'm not sure about this since I haven't used the test driver myself, but I think your config file should have DisplayDLLName=testdriver.dll on the [Communications Settings] section. Your posted config.ini has just a blank there. You can set this by choosing testdriver as the display plugin in the configuration window. Hopefully that will get it doing something.

It could be that the manufacturer/supplier's config file is for an older version of Smartie. I think the display driver settings have changed slightly in a recent version. If this doesn't work, post the contents of the supplied config file and we may be able to figure out what's up.

thats what im thinking because the instruction on what to do, differ slightly from whats attually on the screen

I also change you DisplayDLLName, it failed to intialize. i have now relised it wasn't included in the orginal config file that im am using

just a note i tried version 5.3.2 again with the settings the instruction discribe, and nothing but when i use the smartie settings, under matrix obital or crystalfontz and select COM6 i get a display but its all over the place

Hmm. You're getting somewhere with the matrix.dll driver - that shows that the display is receiving data (but of course the matrix driver doesn't give the right data for your LCD).

Something to try is a clean installation of Smartie 5.4 (That's from early 2007, and 5.4.1 is the latest beta version), add the commands to the config.ini file for your display, and select the testdriver as the display plugin. The driver system in Smartie changed quite a bit between versions 5.3 and 5.4.

You just need to paste the TestDriver section at the end of the file:

You may need to add blank config lines (above the Goto commands) for the startup and shutdown commands if you can't get that working:

Save/close, then run Smartie and select testdriver.dll as the display type (in Smartie config window) and put in the COM port parameters as before (COM6,115200,8,N,1).

If that's the same as what you were doing before and/or it doesn't work, then I'm not sure what the problem is. I haven't used the testdriver and the documentation from Mirrorbow doesn't explain things very well...

PS my signature is part joke and part serious, but often the manuals don't explain things properly or assume you know all sorts of stuff, so you can't always rely on them. That's one of the problems with a project like Smartie - the documentation isn't always up to date and there are some inconsistencies.
