LCD Smartie and Vista x64 (getting annoying now!)

Post by dazzyboi84 »

Have they managed to get this working yet?

I have a parallel driven 4x20 LCD Display on the front of my PC which does not work because LCD Smartie wont work with Windows Vista x64.

Is there any patches/fixes available?

There is NOTHING the LCD Smartie team can do about this. LCDSmartie uses drivers to communicate with the parallel port. These drivers are unsigned, and event though there is a x64 port of Inpout32 (that I wrote) which works, it does not work on Vista x64 because it is unsigned.

Until the latest MS hot fixes, you could disable the driver signing requirement. Also you could use a tool called Atsiv. Both of these options no longer work.

There IS a way to make it work, but its getting more difficult. The only option I am aware of now, it to press F8 at boot up and select "Disable driver signing requirement" This has to be done *every* time you boot up your computer so its hardly idea.

The only other option that I can see, is to create a signed version of inpout32 but that's going to cost, and I don't have unlimited funds to wast on subscriptions to digital certificates.
