1x16, 28, how do i get them to work rite.

Post by duke_stix »

hey all
am new to the lcd scene and lcdsmartie.

ive got a 1x16 SEIKO lcd screen, its all wired up correctly and everything, using the crystalfontz test program i get a correct test signal.

however, if i set the lcd to 1x16 in lcd smartie, only the first 8 characters on the lcd are used, the other 8 remain blank.
ive been told on another forum that if i could get a program that supported 2x8 LCDs and then tell it to 'carry text onto next line', then, that would work.
however im having trouble finding such a program, and i was wondering if there was a plugin or a driver or an older version of lcdsmartie that i could download to get it to run.

the lcd is a SEIKO M1641 using the Hitachi HD44780 controller.
thank you.

Probably there is a divider build in to the LCD module.
Can you try to configure the proram as 2x16 and use both lines?
Can you receive messages in whole LCD?

hey
thats what i thought too.

i set lcdsmartie to 2x16, and the text which was supposed to be on the second line appeared on the last 8 blocks on the lcd, so i know that the lcd works.

what could it be?
thanx

I posted this on another forum, but for the sake of the smartie forums, here goes nothing:

I have built you a small LCD test utility compiled specifically for your HD44780 LCD. You can grab the 1x16 version here or the 2x8 version here(sorry about the slow link). Please inform me if they work; I did not have time to test them. My current theory is that you have a 2x8 LCD except the lines are horizontal to eachother.

Hey..i'm having same problem. Tried a1 and a2 parameters.. 2x16 works anyway, but it's not good for 1x16 lcd

Edit: Tried with older Smartie (renamed inpout32.dll to dlportio.dll) and works. Btw update notification is annoying, can it be disabled?
Edit2: Okay, found a way to disable update check. Btw, if somebody knows how to get this work on 5.4, feel free to say :)
