Interesting! I assume it works - Crystalfontz CF634 compatible command set, but the communication baud rate is only 2400baud as far as I can see (don't read Dutch), so not great for fast updates like spectrum display or lots of scrolling. That's what you can expect with small low-power radio modules though. Using higher spec radio modules you could get maybe 9600baud.
Instead of using the CP2102 chip, you can probably use the FTDI complete USB>RS232 TTL cable, which makes the transmitter easier to build.
Next thing for them to do: bi-directional radio modules, so you can remote control your HT/media PC and see on the LCD what is playing, or sys stats etc.
If I could only read dutch. Mattcro, the mid grade linx radio and many others go up to 56kpbs. They are kinda pricey though for a lcd project (somewhere around $50us for a set).
