I want to make a housing for this display I just purchased A Noritake Itron CU20045SCPB-W2J HD44780 Compatible VF-Display The Display Measures Length 3.8" Hight 2.3" Depth 0.5" So the module itself is small I already have a wiring harness made as I had another display like it except it was a U1J Suffix (It was unprotected and my cat knocked it over and gave it an ESD Shock and it is now dead (Stupid Cat ) So I want to make a case for my display when it comes from the eBay seller to protect it from my cats and make the whole thing look nicer and prop it up so I can see it better. What should I use for the case and how should I go about making one? Thanks I have a few Ideas about what I want it to look like but I need directions or a general kick in the right direction.
1. I always liked the look of POS Pole Displays for some reason (that would be my main kind of case I would want to build) all of the ones I have seen are too big for my purposes though as the original VFD in there is useless to me and it has giant characters so maybe I can build my own display pole? with a base
2. or more easy to build a project box with a hole in it for the viewing of the display I leaning More toward the project Box Idea anyone know where I can get a box like the one below?
You may have already seen this thread, which has pics of my basic project-box enclosure for a 4x20 display plus 5 buttons and an LED. You should be able to find this sort of plain ABS/polystyrene project box in Radioshack, Maplin, Digikey and similar electronics stores.
It's not ideal for viewing when placed on a desk unless you prop it up so it's tilted back a bit. The angled-front enclosure in your pic would be better, and I have to say a slimline POS pole type display looks quite cool (best with a VFD I'd say).
I can probably get an old POS pole display off of Ebay for cheap or I found this on all electronics and I can probably get a PVC Pipe as a pole and I don't know what to use for a base though any suggestions?
