Themes are a way of organising multiple screens, usually for different tasks.

For example, I have screens 1 and 2 for displaying system stats (cpu temp, usage, memory etc). Screen 1 uses Motherboard Monitor for collecting info, and screen 2 uses only native Smartie info, so if Mobo Monitor isn't loaded for some reason, screen 2 gets used. Both these screens are in theme 1.

In theme 2, I have a media info screen (3) for Winamp. I have an action that detects if Winamp is playing, and if it is, theme 2 is activated, otherwise theme 1 is activated.

I also have a button on my LCD that lets me switch themes (also done with actions).

This way I can have one of the system info screens active, OR the media info screen. I could have other screens in theme 2 for other media players (eg DVD player), and maybe a third theme for network/web stats etc.

There are various ways to organise your screens - it really depends on what info you want to see when...
