newbie need help to project about lcd 2x16 and atmel

hi to all...
i am a newbie and i have a project in my school
my teacher want my group to make timer project like a C4, there is a time which can we setting and there is a keypad too.

keypad is using to set the time, put the pin number to defuse bomb/ to stop timer
i have imajine if there is 16 pin number.
if we push the button at atmel mcs51 and right numer as a pin number we input, one bye one the 16 digit as a block2 in lcd decrease by 1.

and if all has finis, until zero.
the timer is stop
if not the modul will ringing

do someone can help me to make this project, please help me
i want to finish my school earlier, i dont want to dissapointing my mom if i failed.
